# Default saved filters

Most people never learn to build a filter. They open a list, see everything in the company, and scroll.

This gives every user **one useful saved view per list**, already scoped to their own work, the first time they
open that list. It is created once — after that it belongs to them, exactly like a view they built themselves.

It also teaches the filter mechanism by example, which is the part a manual cannot do: once somebody sees
"My leads" sitting in the views dropdown, the idea of saving their own view becomes obvious.

## What each user gets

You choose which of these your company uses. Nothing else is created.

## What it never does

- **It never re-creates a view somebody deleted.** If a user removes "My leads", it stays gone — the system
  remembers that it already offered it once.
- **It never touches a list where the user already saved a filter of their own.** People who already work the
  way they like keep their screen unchanged after an upgrade.
- **It never locks anything.** The view can be renamed, edited or deleted like any other saved view.
- **It only sets the starting view when the user has none.** If they already chose one, theirs wins.

## Turn it on or off

Open **Setup → Configuration Center → Default saved filters**. You will find:

- a switch that provisions default filters for everyone;
- a checkbox per view, so you ship only the ones that match how your company works.

Untick every box and nothing is created. The page is admin-only, and every change is recorded in the settings
audit trail.

## When does a user actually get theirs?

The next time they open the admin area. There is nothing to run and nothing to schedule — the view appears in
the views dropdown of that list, already selected if they had no starting view before.

## A note for existing installs

Turning this on does not disturb anyone who is already using the system in their own way. It fills a gap for
people who never made a filter; for everybody else it stays out of the way.

## When a list tells you it is only showing part of the answer

A very long list is never returned in one piece. If you set the page length to **All** on a list with tens of
thousands of rows, the system returns the first 1,000 and stops — otherwise the page would take a long time to
load, the browser would struggle, and everyone else working on the install would slow down with you.

When that happens you now see a short bar above the table:

> filter to see the rest.

**Why this matters more than it looks.** Before, nothing was said. The footer read *"Showing 1 to 1,000 of
28,431"*, which is exactly what a normal page looks like — so there was no way to tell a shortened list from a
complete one. If you scrolled looking for a customer and did not find them, the natural conclusion was that the
customer is not in the system.

**What to do.** Type in the search box, or apply a filter — including a saved filter like the ones above. Once
the list is small enough to fit, the bar disappears on its own.

**When you will not see it.** On an ordinary page. On a list that fits whole. On the last page of a long list,
where there is nothing beyond what you are looking at. The bar only appears when rows really were left out.
